WAILUKU — A 30-year-old Micronesian man with a history of driving while intoxicated has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a 2012 crash on Maui that killed a Washington state woman.
The Maui News reports Walter Mark entered a no contest plea to manslaughter and other felony counts and was sentenced Friday.
Prosecutors say he borrowed a sport utility vehicle on Oct. 28, 2012, and drove intoxicated into three Maui College students walking home from a grocery story.
The crash killed 21-year-old Devon King of Auburn, Washington, and seriously injured 19-year-old Taylor Polston.
Mark was convicted of driving drunk in separate incidents five months before the fatal crash and eight months afterward.
Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo told Mark he had not learned from his convictions and had no remorse.
